Instagram Top 10: Outerwear

Outerwear is everywhere. Celebrities and street style stars rugged up against the elements this week and still managed to look great while doing so.
No one seems to love a statement coat more than Rihanna. Countless paparazzi shots of her can be found all over the internet wearing everything from colorful faux furs to chic shearlings to oversized puffer coats. Speaking of her love for puffer coats, not only did she wear a full-length version in August (in London when it was 69 degrees out), but she also wore what is probably the largest pink puffer known to man while in Paris in the fall of 2016. The coat in question was from the graduate collection (entitled “Claiming Space”) of Finnish designer Ella Boucht. RiRi paired it with lace hot pants and a NSFW t-shirt from Vetements.
Norma Kamali created the Sleeping Bag Coat in 1973 and it has proven so popular that she still manufactures them today. Using a method for warmth pioneered by NASA, each Sleeping Bag Coat is actually two coats sewn together with air pockets in between that allow heat from the body to exchange with cold from the outside. Braving the cold, but not sacrificing style, was the name of the game on Instagram this week.
Ariana Grande took a page out of Rihanna’s (and Norma Kamali’s?) book when she wore a white full-length puffer from Aritzia while carrying her dog Toulouse, whom she calls “the love of my life”. Noah Centineo also spent quality time with his dog, playing fetch on the beach in a varsity jacket from Champion. Emelie Natascha recycled “last years favourite” from The Kooples and Sharon (a.k.a. Flamme de Pigalle) looked gorgeous in Chanel (and totally gave us Sade vibes). Elevators provided the perfect backdrop for Charlotte Groeneveld and Marianne Theodorsen to show off their coats (Paul & Yakov for Charlotte and Stand Studio for Marianne). Margherita Maccapani Missoni gushed, “one of the things that Missoni has always done best are jacquard winter coats” and we couldn’t agree more. Liam Payne looked super cozy while promoting his new single, “Let It Snow”, while Ki Eun-Se wore a very similar coat to a Nike event in South Korea. And, in London, Elle Macpherson channeled the “iconic Gianni Agnelli” in a bright red coat made for her over 25 years ago by a tailor named Mr. Caraceni.
